Us working mums (and of course, stay at home mums) have to cut ourselves some slack.
Lately I've been looking around at how women give themselves so much pressure to work full time, go to the gym, cook, do arts & crafts with the kids on the weekends and have a date night with the hubster, all with mascara in place.
Maybe I'm lazy.
Maybe I'm tired.
Maybe I'm lazy AND tired.
Maybe, just maybe, I'm human and I don't have to be doing something all the blooming time except breathe.
Some weekends I have grand plans - like that week we went to the My Little Pony show and I sacrificed my hearing (listening to the blaring theme song 562 times) and queued in the scorching heat so that the twins could get a pony ride, feed 'em and have a photo taken with a pretty pony named Jasmine.
But this Sunday I sat in the same spot for 2 hours (and counting) while the twins took their nap on the couch. I took a nap too cos I must've eaten something that made my eyelids weigh 2 kilos on each eye. Half hour nap. Half hour trying not to wake up from the nap. Then just sitting here and scrolling through Facebook.
Then my daughter stirs. And she smiles at me. Usually she wakes from a nap whining, finding out I had swapped out my lap for a cushion under her head and I'm off doing something in the kitchen.
She smiles to see me in the same spot as I was in when she closed her eyes.
"Mummy... "
"Yes? "
"Mummy... You and me... We got... got... "
"Hmmm? " I hold her hand waiting for the end of the drowsy, drawling sentence.
"You and me, we got cute belly buttons... " then she nuzzles back on my lap and goes back to sleep. Lol moment that I'll never forget! Xoxoxo
2 and a half hours (and counting) of not cooking dinner, not making play dough, not making something for dessert...
Best 2 and a half hours this week... And yes that's my flabby cute belly button indent under my housecoat, with a spot of smudged hummus I forgot was there since cleaning out the blender after lunch.
